The Dublin Butcher (“we”, “us”) runs thedublinbutcher.com.au (the “website”) and the shop at Shop 23, The Centre, Forestville NSW 2087. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what your choices are. We handle your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

The Dublin Butcher is operated by Cash & Koch Meats Pty Ltd (ABN 35 640 082 551), Shop 23, The Centre, Forestville NSW 2087.

What we collect

Details you give us

When you order, create an account, buy a gift card or write to us, we may collect:

  • your name, email address and phone number
  • your order details, collection or delivery details and any notes you add
  • your delivery address, if you choose delivery
  • your loyalty points, referral code and gift card activity if you are a member
  • whatever you put in a message to us

We do not see or store your card number. Card payments are handled by Stripe, who give us confirmation of the payment and, where needed, the last four digits and card type.

Details collected automatically

Our hosting provider keeps routine technical records of requests to the website, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, so the site can run and be kept secure. We do not run advertising trackers on the website. To count visits and measure how fast the pages load we use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights. They do not use cookies, do not follow you from site to site and do not store your name or contact details. If that ever changes we will update this policy first.

Unfinished Christmas orders

If you tick “Email me a reminder about my order” on the Christmas form and leave without ordering, we save your name, email and basket so we can send you one reminder email with a link back to it. We use that information only for the reminder.

Ask the Butcher, our AI helper

The messages you type into Ask the Butcher, the AI helper on our website, are processed by Anthropic to answer them and are not kept by the shop. Please don't type your name, contact details or card details into it.

Cookies

We use cookies and similar tools to keep you signed in and remember your cart. You can block cookies in your browser settings, though signing in and the cart may not work without them.

How we use your information

  • to take, pack, deliver or hand over your order, and to contact you about it
  • to run your account, your loyalty points, referrals and gift cards
  • to answer your questions and enquiries
  • to keep the website working and secure
  • to send you promotions and news, only if you have said yes (see below)
  • to meet our legal and tax obligations

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for unrelated marketing.

Who we share it with

We use trusted service providers to run the website and the shop. They only get what they need to do their job:

  • Stripe, to take card payments
  • Supabase, which hosts our database and sign-in
  • Vercel, which hosts the website
  • Resend, which sends our emails, such as order confirmations and replies to your messages
  • Anthropic, which answers the questions typed into Ask the Butcher, our online AI helper

Some of these providers are based in, or may store or process data in, countries outside Australia, including the United States. These providers have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to read them. We may also share information where the law requires it.

Marketing

We only send marketing emails or texts if you have opted in. Every marketing message has an unsubscribe link, and you can switch it off at any time in your account or by contacting us. Order and account messages are not marketing. If you unsubscribe, we stop the promotional emails and basket reminders to that address. We still send the messages about an order you have placed, such as your confirmation and collection details.

Keeping your data safe

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. No method of sending or storing data online is 100% secure, so please use a strong, unique password and keep it to yourself. We keep your information only as long as we need it for the reasons above or as the law requires. Order records are kept for the period the tax law requires. Accounts are kept until you ask us to delete them. Unfinished-basket reminders are deleted after a short time or once you order. Email logs are kept for a limited time.

If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as the law requires.

Your choices and rights

  • You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and to correct it.
  • You can ask us to delete your account. We may need to keep some records, such as orders, for tax and legal reasons.
  • You can unsubscribe from marketing at any time.
  • You can block cookies in your browser settings.

If you think we have mishandled your information, tell us first and we will try to put it right. You can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example when our services or the law change. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
